Cisco powers Vodafone Idea’s automated cloud network

Telecom operator Vodafone Idea has selected Cisco solutions for the deployment of an automated multi-cloud network to enhance experience for its customers.
Cisco MWC 2018 BarcelonaVodafone Idea, which struggled to enhance Capex in the last quarter of 2018, is deploying the largest integrated cloud platform for its IT and network applications.

Cisco will be supporting the engineers of Vodafone Idea to deploy a distributed multi-cloud architecture based on Cisco Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI). This automated solution has enabled a nationwide deployment in record time.

Top telecom network infrastructure companies include Huawei with 22.4 percent share, followed by Nokia with 11.9 percent share, Ericsson with 9.5 percent share, Cisco with 6.7 percent share and ZTE with 4.3 percent share.

“It has fast-tracked Vodafone Idea’s Data Core Network rollout, increased capacities, and helped reduce costs as Cloud implementation is now done in 72 hours with the same cloud being used for both IT and Network applications, said Vishant Vora, chief technology officer of Vodafone Idea.

Vodafone Idea used Cisco solutions such as CiscoVIM for NFVI management, Cisco Ultra Packet core and Policy, 3rd party VNFs (Virtual Network Functions), Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI).

“This project furthers Cisco’s position as a trusted partner at Vodafone Idea India for cloud, virtualization, data center and mobile packet core,” said Kishen Mangat, vice president and general manager, Mobility Business Group, Cisco.
