Cisco, the leader in security and networking, has opened its first manufacturing facility in Chennai, India.
This site will produce Cisco’s routing and switching products to meet the technology needs of organizations in India and around the world. Cisco did not reveal its investment in India.
With this strategic investment, Cisco aims to drive over $1.3 billion in revenue — in terms of exports and sales in India — over the next few years. The facility is expected to create 1200 jobs in the state. Cisco does not reveal the number of its employees in India at present. Globally, Cisco had 84,900 employees as of July 29, 2023. 48 percent of its employees are based in the United States.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Communications, has inaugurated the facility. Chuck Robbins, Chair and CEO of Cisco; Jeetu Patel, Chief Product Officer of Cisco; Dave West, President, Cisco APJC; Daisy Chittilapilly, President, Cisco India & SAARC, were present.
Cisco has collaborated with Flex to build the Chennai site.
The facility will initially focus on Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series of routers.
Chuck Robbins said the inauguration of a manufacturing facility in Chennai marks a significant advancement in its commitment to the region.
Cisco’s total revenue was $56.998 billion in 2023 fiscal. Cisco has generated sales of $8.417 billion, representing 14.8 percent of its total revenue, in the Asia Pacific region. Cisco’s product revenue increased 62 percent in India during the 2023 fiscal. India is a key market for Cisco and its second largest R&D center outside the US.
