The Chinese telecom equipment maker said this will be a breakthrough for international standards in the field of ODN.

The expansion of optical network deployments makes it difficult for carriers to manage massive fiber resources found on networks. Currently, the manual operation, administration, and maintenance (OAM) is not efficient and cannot meet the operation and maintenance needs of carrier’s optical networks.

BBF uses iODN standards to define iODN systems architecture and performance requirements among different functional module interfaces, laying the foundation for the wide application and successful interconnection of iODN technologies.

Huawei claims that its iODN solution will help carriers meet the increasing demands placed on them by resolving OAM issues through the use of fiber sensing and intelligent ID technologies, to establish an intelligent fiber infrastructure network that is easy to identify, manage, and monitor.

Huawei has worked with China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom on iODN standards research.

To date, Huawei’s iODN solution has served carriers including in Qatar, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, United Arab Emirates, and China.

Recently, Huawei deployed Freescale Semiconductor’s MSC8156 digital signal processor (DSP) in its TD-SCDMA Base Stations throughout China. The selection of MSC8156 DSP has allowed Huawei to provide high-performance digital signal processing capabilities for a number of TD-SCDMA base stations.
