Qualcomm offers LTE modem for Windows 10 notebooks and tablets

Qualcomm leads cellular processor market  in 2013, ahead of MediaTek and Intel
Wireless chip vendor Qualcomm Technologies announced its LTE modem for Windows 10 notebooks and tablets.

The U.S.-based Qualcomm said Snapdragon X12, X7 and X5 LTE modems will support upcoming Windows 10 notebooks, 2-in-1s and tablets later this year.

Snapdragon LTE modems are designed to provide similar mobility experiences on PCs that are found in smartphones, said Qualcomm. It will benefit enterprise users, who are using embedded LTE and location capabilities to enhance security and productivity.

Dell, HP, Lenovo and Panasonic are some of the vendors which will be coming out with Windows 10 devices with LTE connectivity options. Snapdragon LTE embedded modules are also available from Foxconn and Sierra Wireless, to name a few.

“Incorporating Qualcomm’s cellular connectivity to Windows 10 devices will create an enhanced rich mobile experience allowing users the capability to load web pages, video conference, stream videos faster and more with greater quality,” said Chris Morrissey, director of business planning, Microsoft.

“LTE Advanced technology is growing in importance for both consumers and business users of the more than 80 networks around the world that have upgraded to support the significantly faster network speeds LTE Advanced provides,” said Dan Schieler, senior vice president, OEM Solutions, Sierra Wireless.
