Infineon leads automotive semiconductor business – beating NXP

Infineon has become the leading supplier of automotive semiconductors, displacing rival NXP from the number one spot in 2020, Strategy Analytics report said.
Infineon chipsetInfineon, NXP, Renesas, Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics are the top five vendors accounting for almost 49 percent of the global automotive semiconductor market in 2020.

Automotive semiconductor vendor revenues dropped 6 percent to $35 billion in 2020 from $37.2 billion in 2019, Strategy Analytics estimates.

Asif Anwar, report author and PBCS Service Director, said: “Infineon was the only company in the top five to demonstrate growth in both revenue and market share with the Cypress Semiconductor helping to cement Infineon as the number one automotive semiconductor supplier.”

The 2021 demand pipeline remains robust as semiconductor companies continue to play catch-up, and the automotive semiconductor industry players are positioned to enjoy a period of sustained revenue and profitability growth, Strategy Analytics said.
