Samsung launches first smartphone based on Windows 7.5 platform in India


Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the Samsung
Omnia W, its first Smartphone based on the latest release of Microsoft’s
Windows Phone, code-named Mango.


The company also strengthened its smartphone portfolio
with the launch of its first bada 2.0 device Wave III and its Android
based entry smartphone targeted at younger audience, the Galaxy Y. 


We are very proud and delighted to be announcing the
launch of India’s first smartphone based on the Windows 7.5 platform. The
potential of Windows based phone and the possibilities it opens for Samsung
customers are endless. The launch of our WAVE III phone on the bada
2.0 platform along with Galaxy Y, our Android based entry smartphone only
adds to the excitement,” said Ranjit Yadav, country head, Mobile and IT,
Samsung India.


Mobile consumers are increasingly being socially
networked through their phones anytime, anywhere, and instantly. They are
looking for high-performance devices that are easy and intuitive to use, look
great, and enable them to create and share rich multimedia content with ease.
Our smartphones deliver on all these counts and by launching three smartphones
across three different platforms and price points, we are giving consumers more
choice,” Yadav added.


Commencing with Galaxy Y which hits the market this
week, all the three devices will be available for the Indian consumer in quick
succession. With the launch of the three new smartphones, Samsung has a total
range of 12 smartphone models in the market, priced between Rs 6,710 to Rs
32,890,” Yadav added.


Samsung Apps, an integrated application store for Samsung
smartphones, is also available. With an improved UI and enhanced store
features, Samsung Apps offers a wide variety of applications from globally
well-known content to locally-customized applications. The Wave III is priced
at Rs 19,600, while the Galaxy Y is priced at Rs 7,830.
