Telecom Lead Asia: Taiwan smartphone major has
announced that it is supporting Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8 platform.
The company will bring smartphones running on Phone 8 platform
to market later this year. Both companies have been working together since
2000.
“HTC is committed to Windows Phone more than ever
and we are excited to be bringing new Windows Phone 8-enabled smartphones to
customers later this year. With the introduction of Windows Phone in 2010,
Microsoft initiated a new powerful mobile ecosystem with a consumer experience
that was both unique and user friendly,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC
Corporation.
In February, HTC unveiled its new HTC TITAN II as the company’s first Windows Phone to run
on a 4G LTE network.
Microsoft believes that its new platform will see a
massive uptake in the market. Its earlier release of Windows platform is also
going decently.
“We have seen great momentum for Windows Phone since
its launch in 2010, with 100,000 apps now in the Marketplace. HTC is one of our
closest partners and we share a common goal in driving people-centric
innovation, which makes it easy to work together. We can’t wait to see how HTC
brings Windows Phone 8 to its product portfolio,” said Terry Myerson,
corporate vice president of Windows Phone at Microsoft.
HTC April sales dip 20% at NT$31.03 billion
Recently, HTC said that its consolidated sales for April
were NT$31.03 billion, down 20 percent as compared NT$38.73 billion a year ago.
For the first four months of this year, the company’s
consolidated revenue totaled NT$98.82 billion, down 30.84 percent from a year
earlier.
