Celkon Mobiles announces growth strategy

Celkon Mobiles on Monday announced its growth strategy.

To compete with Indian rivals such as Micromax, Karbonn and Lava and foreign handset makers like Samsung, Nokia, Apple, etc. Celkon Mobiles will spend Rs 100 crore on marketing during the current fiscal.

It will focus on smartphones, expanding into international markets and increasing spend on marketing as part of growth straregy.

The company is set to expand into the international markets by setting up the distribution network in South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangladesh.

“We will continue to move aggressively not only in the Indian markets but also in the international markets,” said Y Guru, chairman and managing director, Celkon Mobiles.

Celkon Mobiles’ expansion has already assisted the handset maker to rake in revenue of Rs 600 crore in FY in 2012-13 against 357 crore in 2011-12. For comparison, Micromax is looking at $1 billion revenue during the current fiscal.

The company is expecting substantial growth from smartphone segment in the Indian the mobile market which is currently dominated by Samsung. ( Micromax may overtake Samsung as smartphone leader in third quarter )

Celkon Mobiles has presence in India across 400 districts with a dealer network of about 70,000 retail outlets. It has launched around 300 models in the last 4 years. The product portfolio consists of dual SIM phones feature phones, 3G phones, Android smart phones and tablets.
