Pakistan Cracks Down on SIM Card Misuse to Boost Telecom Security and Customer Trust

Pakistan’s telecommunications regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), issued a public advisory urging users to register SIM cards in their own names and avoid misuse to ensure accountability and network security after complaints of extortion calls in Karachi. The move reflects a customer‑centric focus on safer, transparent digital services and aligns Pakistan’s practices with international standards, improving trust for consumers and businesses. By tightening regulations, authorities aim to boost confidence in the telecom sector, a key foundation for digital innovation and investment in tech infrastructure.
