Vietnam is exploring new 5G agreements with Chinese technology giants such as Huawei and ZTE, despite security concerns raised by the United States. State-owned operator Mobifone is reportedly in talks to procure equipment to accelerate its 5G rollout, potentially expanding the role of Chinese vendors in its telecom infrastructure. This development marks a notable shift from Vietnam’s earlier stance in 2020, when it leaned toward limiting Chinese involvement. The move underscores Vietnam’s effort to balance cost efficiency and rapid network expansion while navigating complex geopolitical pressures.
