AT&T says User-Defined Network Cloud program to reduce Capex in 5 years

American telecom service provider AT&T today said its User-Defined Network Cloud program will reflect a downward bias toward Capex (capital spending).

AT&T does not share specific details on its five year Capex plan.

Also, there will be no immediate change in its Capex outlay for 2014.

Early in the day, AT&T said it’s committed to invest in networks this year and its Capex will be $21 billion for 2014. AT&T’s Q1 2014 revenue grew 3.6 percent to $32.5 billion, while it reported a flat growth in net income to $3.7 billion. AT&T’s Q1 2014 Capex was $5.8 billion.

Meanwhile, AT&T named Amdocs and Juniper Networks as two additional vendors that will help AT&T toward the vision of the User-Defined Network Cloud.

User-Defined Network Cloud program, first announced on February 24, will place customers at the center of the network with a modern, cloud-based architecture, a global first at this scale. The program allows AT&T to tap into the latest technologies to enhance the network infrastructure.

Tim Harden, president, AT&T Supply Chain, said: “We’re taking another step toward building the faster, simpler and more flexible network of the future that provides increased global connectivity with easily scalable and faster content delivery.”
