Ericsson to supply online charging and policy control solution to Chunghwa Telecom

Ericsson will supply online charging and policy control solution to Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom that aids in improving customer experience.

Chunghwa will be able to create flexible, innovative and differentiated service offerings for its existing and LTE customers.

Chunghwa’s LTE consumers will benefit from real-time control of their services and usage – regardless of their desired payment method.

As per the deal with Chunghwa Telecom, Ericsson will be the consulting and systems integrator of an online charging system (OCS) and policy and charging rules function (PCRF).

The new BSS (business support systems) environment supported by Ericsson will include a single integrated online charging and policy control solution that serves existing and LTE prepaid and postpaid subscribers.

Ericsson’s solution will allow Chunghwa to offer its existing and LTE customers real-time control of their service usage, account balances and richer offerings with the right QoS (quality of service) and enhanced user experience.

Recently, ABI Research said subscribers and operators both need policy management that moves to the next level, which is both relationship-oriented and prescriptive to deliver greater customer satisfaction and operator performance.

Lin Kuo-Feng, president of Chunghwa Telecom Mobile Business Group, said: “We know from Chunghwa Telecom’s long-standing cooperation with Ericsson that we will get the best solution and support the market has to offer for this business-critical function.”

The Policy and Charging Control market will reach nearly $3 billion in 2018 with growth coming as subscribers acclimate to innovative, granular, and personalized price plans. The advanced Policy 3.0 solutions will equip operators to rapidly develop new plans and packages while discovering the subscriber’s willingness to pay. The synergistic benefits of coordinating Policy, Charging and Customer Experience Management will deliver key competitive advantages.
