China Telecom names Yang Jie as president and chief operating officer

China Telecom announced the appointment of
Yang Jie as president and chief operating officer.

Yang replaces Shang Bing, who resigned in
July to take up an appointment as a vice minister at China’s Ministry of
Industry and Information Technology.

Shang’s transfer into government was part
of a management shake-up at China’s state-controlled telecommunications
carriers.

Yang has 27 years of “operational and
managerial experience” in China’s telecom industry. Yang is also president
at China Telecommunications, China Telecom’s state-owned parent.
