The series having four variants, has the 26.5 GHz or 44.5 GHz model which can be connected to the High Performance Waveguide Mixer (50 GHz to 90 GHz) or an external mixer (≤325 GHz), expanding the measurement frequency range with ease.
The addition intended to support narrow-band measurement performance in a middle-range signal analyzer/spectrum analyzer platform comes with a dedicated low phase noise option.
Both the 3.6 GHz and 6.6 GHz variants also incorporate close-in SSB phase noise performance and a built-in signal generator offered by the previous MS2830A series, a feature which the company claims to be lacking in other rival group high-end models.
Also, the upgrade claims to detect spurious and phase noise of oscillators in wired and wireless equipment, previously checked using large and expensive dedicated phase noise measuring instruments and spectrum analyzers, while the signal generator facilitates all-in-one MS2840A wireless TRx evaluations.
The company explained that though there are signal or spectrum analyzer models with wideband performance supporting LTE and W-LAN measurements, the same is not available for narrowband wireless, wireless backhaul and radar.
This product is designed hence to meet the demands for a low-cost platform with better performance with importance on narrowband measurement performance by targeting more frequency options, an order-of-magnitude better SSB phase noise performance, built-in signal generator, etc., thus providing support to a versatile measurement platform.
The standard carrier close-in SSB phase noise performance is recorded at –123 dBc/Hz at a measurement frequency of 1 GHz and an offset frequency of 10 kHz, with dedicated options for the 3.6 GHz and 6.6 GHz models. Both parameters meet or exceed other high end rival performances, says the company.
The signal analyzer functions backs instantaneous spectrum observation, Frequency vs Time, Phase Variation vs Time, Spectrogram displays, etc. and the device supports both digital and analog wireless modulation signals, and can work on the vector modulation signal analysis software, analog measurement software, amplifier noise figure (NF) measurement functions, etc.
For wireless TRx signal evaluation, the 3.6 GHz and 6.6 GHz option outputs of both digital and analog modulation signals can be opted for configuring an all-in-one MS2840A platform.
The device can also support millimeter-waveband transmitter and antenna measurements by connecting the High Performance Waveguide Mixer (50 GHz to 90 GHz) for millimeter-waveband measurement to either the 26.5-GHz or 44.5-GHz model.
Also, efficient measurement of Tx characteristics, including spurious, adjacent channel leakage power, spectrum mask, frequency count, etc alongside built-in signal analyzer functions support Power vs Time, Frequency vs Time, Phase vs Time, and Spectrogram measurements, can be conducted. The installed Microsoft Windows7 (64 bit) OS works on a fast Core-i5 CPU with 8 GB of memory and SSD storage.
The device is intended for use in R&D and manufacturing for Private Mobile Radio (PMR), wireless backhaul, radar, satellite communications, automobile electronics, oscillators in wireless equipment, etc.
