OLED monitor display shipments rose 415 percent in 2023, as per findings from Omdia’s Monitor Display & OEM Market Tracker.
Omdia indicates 123 percent growth in OLED monitor display shipments in 2024, with shipments of 1.84 million units. This remarkable growth is chiefly attributed to industry giants Samsung Display and LG Display.
The proliferation of OLED monitors can be primarily attributed to their burgeoning popularity in gaming applications. The inclusion of esports as an official event for the first time at the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, has notably bolstered the demand for OLED monitors.
According to Nick Jiang, Principal Analyst in Omdia’s Displays research practice, this pivotal development signifies the evolution of esports from grassroots initiatives to recognized, mainstream sporting events.
As the appetite for enhanced monitor specifications and larger screen sizes continues to burgeon, a corresponding uptick in LCD monitor panel prices is anticipated. Consequently, this will narrow the price differential between LCD and OLED monitors, rendering OLED technology more accessible to a broader consumer base.
Moreover, leading monitor brands such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, LG Electronics, AOC/Philips, Asus, Acer, MSI, and Gigabyte are increasingly integrating OLED displays into their product portfolios for 2024.
From a supply chain standpoint, this trend translates into cost reductions for both OEM and panel companies. The proliferation of OLED monitor displays from panel companies can effectively distribute the cost burden, resulting in a downward trajectory in costs. Simultaneously, for OLED monitor OEM companies, shared tooling costs among multiple branded customers further contribute to reduced production expenses.
