Avanti Communications, a provider of satellite data communications services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has been awarded the landing permit for its HYLAS 4 satellite.

This is the first such permit in the history of Nigeria.

HYLAS-4 is a telecommunications satellite owned and operated by Avanti  and manufactured by Orbital ATK that was launched by an Ariane 5 rocket on 5 April 2018.

The authorization by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) enables Avanti to strengthen its business in the largest African economy.

By granting the permission, NCC emphasized its mandate to foster the deployment of communications services to grassroots, to create economic growth and development.

Ann Vandenbroucke, chief regulatory officer at Avanti Communications, said,” Avanti is the only operator to have invested in satellite gateways in Nigeria to ensure the highest quality of service in the country.”

Avanti will collaborate with local partners to drive greater access –including in outlying rural areas-  to innovative services that are available and affordable to all citizens, businesses and schools, Vandenbroucke said.
