SoftBank, Akamai invest in Saguna Networks

Saguna Networks today said it received funding from SoftBank Ventures Korea and Akamai Technologies.

Saguna, a Mobile Edge Computing provider for increasing the speed of mobile broadband, will use the funding to expand its presence in North America, Asia and Europe as well as accelerate product development.

The Israel-based Saguna assists mobile operators to improve user experience, monetization and network economics by bringing internet content and applications into the Radio Access Network (RAN).

“The Saguna CODS Mobile Edge Computing platform creates direct fast-track connections between internet content providers and web applications to mobile users,” said Lior Fite, CEO of Saguna Networks.

Akamai Technologies and Saguna have already demonstrated the first CDN operating inside the mobile base station as a proof of concept and are actively exploring new collaborative opportunities.
