AT&T Fiber investment reaches 71 metros

US wireless operator AT&T today said the company’s AT&T Fiber has reached 71 metros nationwide by bringing ultra-fast internet service in South Bend, Ind.
AT&T campaign“We’ve invested in fiber at the core of our networks, making it possible to offer our ultra-fast internet service powered by AT&T Fiber to area residents, AT&T Business Fiber to local businesses,” Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana, said.

AT&T is currently conducting one of the nation’s first fixed 5G trials using millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum.

Bill Soards said the company’s fiber expansions across the nation will help allow AT&T to achieve its plans to be the first U.S. carrier to provide mobile 5G service in 12 cities by the end of this year.

AT&T is also planning to bring 100 percent fiber network powered by AT&T Fiber to parts of 13 additional metro areas such as Amarillo, Beaumont, Lake Charles, Northeast Mississippi, Bowling Green, Panama City, Evansville, Pensacola, Florence, Springfield, Il, Gainesville, Waco and Hattiesburg.

AT&T recently reached more than 9 million locations offering ultra-fast low-latency internet service powered by AT&T Fiber. AT&T plans to reach at least 14 million locations across at least 84 metro areas by mid-2019.

AT&T covers more than 1.8 million business customer locations. With fiber, businesses are able to access innovative solutions like highly-secure networking, cloud computing and video conferencing & collaboration tools.
