GCT provides LTE single-chip solution to Sierra Wireless for 4G LTE Tri-Fi Hotspot

Telecom Lead America: Sierra Wireless has selected
GCT Semiconductor’s LTE single-chip solution, called GDM7240 for its new Sierra
Wireless 4G LTE Tri-Fi Hotspot.

GCT Semiconductor, a designer and supplier of advanced 4G
mobile semiconductor solutions, said that the Sierra Wireless 4G LTE Tri-Fi
Hotspot is now available exclusively from Sprint.

Sierra Wireless develops products for the leading edge
of network technologies like LTE, and this frequently requires tight product
development schedules. We need to know that the components we select are going
to integrate and work reliably,” said Jim Kirkpatrick, senior vice
president of Engineering, Mobile Computing for Sierra Wireless.

The new hotspot allows customers to share their EV-DO,
WiMAX or LTE broadband connection with up to eight devices simultaneously.

Furthermore, the hotspot features ultra-fast data speeds
and strong in-building penetration, while seamlessly switching between LTE,
WiMAX and 3G networks.

“The new hotspot offers a superior customer
experience, allowing users to connect not only to their laptops, but also up to
eight devices such as music players, cameras and portable game consoles,”
said Kyeongho “KH” Lee, president and chief executive officer of GCT
Semiconductor.

GCT’s GDM7240 is currently commercially deployed
with the leading LTE operators in the U.S. and various other markets worldwide.

GCT claims that its GDM7240 is the most mature LTE
single-chip solution available today, ideally suited to meet the rapidly
growing demands for higher data speed, low power consumption, higher mobility,
enhanced applications and global roaming.

YTL in pact with GCT to launch WiMAX + HSPA 4G smartphone

Recently, GCT Semiconductor and YTL Communications,
Malaysia’s 4G mobile Internet provider launched a new WiMAX + HSPA 4G
smartphone.

The WiMAX + HSPA 4G smartphone is called Eclipse. The new
phone is enabled by GCT’s WiMAX single-chip solution, GDM7205.
