Huawei wins 30 5G contracts including 18 in Europe

Huawei carrier business CEO Ryan Ding said Huawei has won 30 5G contracts, including 18 in Europe, nine in the Middle East and three in the Asia-Pacific region.
Huawei Balong 5000 launchHuawei rivals including Ericsson, Nokia and ZTE are yet to reveal the number of 5G contracts in their business kitty.

The addition of 5G contracts in Europe indicates that telecom operators in several EU nations are not dropping Huawei from their 5G network deals. Huawei is yet to disclose the size of the 5G equipment deals.

Recently, UK, France, Germany, among others, which are allies of the US, have expressed concerns about associating with Huawei due to security reasons.

Growing concerns

Top US universities are ditching telecom equipment made by Huawei Technologies and other Chinese companies to avoid losing federal funding under a new national security law backed by the Trump administration, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, the Prince’s Trust, founded by Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth in 1976 to help disadvantaged young people in Britain, will not accept any new donations from Huawei Technologies in light of public concerns. It had received 490,000 pounds from Huawei since 2007.

Britain’s Oxford University said last week it had stopped accepting funding from Huawei in light of public concerns.

Huawei reported a 50 percent jump in consumer business revenue last year to more than $52 billion. The consumer business accounted for 48 percent of total revenue, contributing more than Huawei’s business for telecoms network providers for the first time.

5G chipset Balong

Huawei has launched its 5G chipset Balong 5000 and Huawei 5G CPE Pro. The company’s 5G chipset Balong 5000 is a rival to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50. Huawei will use Balong 5000 in 5G smartphones, home broadband devices, vehicle-mounted devices, and 5G modules.

Huawei will release its 5G smartphones powered by Balong 5000 at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Huawei will launch the foldable phone at the Mobile World Congress next month with sales beginning in April at the earliest.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, said: “Balong 5000 supports 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G on a single chip.”

Balong 5000 chipset can achieve download speeds up to 4.6 Gbps at Sub-6 GHz spectrum. Balong 5000 can achieve download speeds up to 6.5 Gbps – 10 times faster than top 4G LTE speeds on the market — on mmWave spectrum.

Balong 5000 is the world’s first chipset that supports standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures for 5G.

Balong 5000 is the world’s first multi-mode chipset that supports Vehicle to Everything (V2X) communications for connected vehicles. Huawei 5G CPE Pro — powered by Balong 5000 — supports 4G and 5G wireless connections. Huawei 5G CPE Pro delivers speeds of up to 4.8 Gbps.

Huawei, the number one telecom equipment maker, has more than 5,700 engineers dedicated to 5G R&D, including over 500 5G experts. Huawei has established 11 joint innovation centers for 5G solutions worldwide.
