T-Mobile investment ensures 8x LTE network capacity in Atlanta

T-Mobile has made investment to expand LTE network speed and coverage in Atlanta ahead of Super Bowl LIII, permanently enhancing capacity by up to 8x at key locations.
T-Mobile LTE speed in Atlanta“We’re making these permanent upgrades that will continue to serve Atlanta long beyond the Super Bowl. We’re also laying a foundation for 5G,” said Neville Ray, chief technology officer at T-Mobile.

T-Mobile permanently increased network capacity and coverage in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, key hotels throughout the city, along transit routes and at dozens of Super Bowl event venues like Cobb Galleria, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia World Congress Center and State Farm Arena.

The third largest telecom carrier also doubled LTE capacity at SunTrust Park and enhanced the network throughout Midtown, Downtown and around the stadium and tailgate areas.

T-Mobile deployed more than 300 small cells — most enabled with License Assisted Access (LAA), an LTE–Advanced technology that delivers more capacity and speed — and 20 new Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).

T-Mobile’s network engineers have added 50 percent more capacity at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the highest capacity DAS on T-Mobile’s network.

T-Mobile’s engineers have also added first outdoor C-RAN system in the tailgating and events areas. C-RAN technology improves network performance in high traffic scenarios, and helps extend smartphone battery life.
