DoT says call drop issue is more severe indoors

call drop and smartpone usersIndia’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) today said call drop issue is more severe indoors in the country.

Telecom service providers (TSPs) have installed about 212,917 additional BTSs during June 2016 to February 2017.

DoT launched Integrated Voice Response System (IVRS) system in Delhi, Mumbai, UP, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Goa on 23 December 2016, and other states in 2017 to monitor call drop issues.

Following calls made to 1661640 subscribers of TSPs, 2,20,935 subscribers participated in the DoT survey and 1,38,072 (62.5 percent) subscribers reported call drops.

DoT observed that the problem of call drops is more severe indoors.

Telecoms have taken up 43,403 feedback cases for investigation for the fortnight 15-28 February 2017.

After telephonic calls and SMS to the subscribers to seek additional information on their call drop problem, 7,210 cases were identified for resolution. During the fortnight, 2467 cases were resolved through optimization, rectifying hardware / power problems, through field visits etc.

Since the launch of IVRS, 9,328 cases have been resolved through this initiative.

5,529 cases were not related to call drop problem. They faced other issues like data, roaming, billing, MNP, mobile device etc.

Telecoms are planning 603 new sites / boosters for installation to address call drop issues that impacted customer experience across India.
