Vodafone UK said usage of social media increased 26 percent on Christmas Day and data increased 81 percent on New Year on its 4G network.
Usage of social media over its 4G network increased by 26 percent on Christmas Day compared to last year and peaked at 18:00with the most popular app being Instagram. Customers also enjoyed the more traditional ways of keeping in touch too, with text messaging hitting a high at 10:00 with 4.6 million text messages sent in the hour and voice calls spiked at 11:00.
New Year’s Eve saw a rise of 84 percent in social media activity with 00:00 to 01:00 being the most popular time for customers to share pictures of their celebrations. Data usage on New Year increased 81 percent compared to last year.
Overall, 2016 was a record year for the amount of data sent across Vodafone’s UK network as the company expanded its 4G coverage to 96 percent of the UK population.

On the day of The Great British Bake Off final, Vodafone mobile customers sent and received the equivalent amount of data on their handsets as around 13,000 days or more than 34 years of continuous streaming of High Definition video.
“Our ongoing network investment program will ensure that our customers continue to reach their loved ones whenever they want into 2017 and beyond,” said Vodafone UK Head of Mobile Networks Kye Prigg.
