NEC to display new iPASOLINK EX radio system at MWC 2016

 NEC Corporation
Networking equipment maker NEC will display its new iPASOLINK EX, a radio communication system offering wireless transmission capacity of 10Gbps — at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016).

NEC said this transmission capacity is equivalent to that of optical fibers, making the new product suitable for use in mobile backhaul networks for LTE-Advanced and 5G.

Adopting E-band range (71-86GHz frequency) millimeter radio waves, the new telecom product from NEC achieves low latency and high transmission capacity of 10Gbps with a single band, more than three-times higher than NEC’s existing model.

Telecoms can combine NEC’s multi-band utilization solution to ensure increased transmission capacity by transmitting data over both E-band and other frequency bands. Mobile operators can utilize the new telecom product to increase capacity of macro / small cell backhaul, and fronthaul for Centralized Radio Access networks (C-RAN).

NEC in a statement said the new telecom product’s Adaptive Modulation and Bandwidth Radio (AMBR) also enable dynamic adjustment of its modulation method and communication bandwidth according to the application, weather conditions and communication distance.

NEC said that the new iPASOLINK EX is approximately 30 percent smaller than the existing model – ensuring lower costs associated with site acquisition and installation work. The new product is equipped with 10Gbps Ethernet interfaces, allowing it to efficiently transmit data via optical fiber to mobile core networks.

Meanwhile, Nokia Networks, which is displaying its products at MWC 2016, has expanded its mobile fronthaul solution with new 1830 Versatile WDM Module (VWM) optical platforms, allowing telecom operators to accelerate the deployment of centralized RAN architectures.
