Telecom network vendor Ciena announced that two of its clients — Asia America Gateway (AAG) consortium and Global Cloud Xchange, a subsidiary of Reliance Communications — have deployed its networking solutions to boost capacity.
AAG
AAG has upgraded its Asia and trans-Pacific cable network using Ciena’s GeoMesh submarine solutions to meet demand for international capacity.
Private networks share of total used trans-Pacific bandwidth is forecasted to grow by more than 50 percent in 2016, according to TeleGeography.
AAG, a 20,000 km submarine communications cable system, connecting Southeast Asia with the U.S. mainland, across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii. provides connectivity between Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast.
The company said AAG deployed Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, powered by WaveLogic coherent optics and Flexible Grid technology, to add capacity and extend the lifetime of its network.
“Over the last year and a half we have seen an immense growth in the demand for capacity from the AAG owners. By working with Ciena and using their converged packet-optical solutions we have been able to upgrade our network,” said Michael Costin, chairman of the AAG Management Committee.
Global Cloud Xchange
Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) has deployed Ciena’s Packet Networking solutions to enable Ethernet services on its transatlantic route – ensuring connectivity for international carriers, multinational enterprises and new media customers.
GCX has deployed Ciena’s packet networking capabilities for facilitating connectivity for content and application distribution and Internet connectivity, supporting critical business transactions, data-intensive applications and cloud computing services.
GCX is utilizing Ciena’s 5160 to provide 1G and 10G Ethernet business services as part of its data communications portfolio.
GCX is also utilizing Ciena’s management solutions for automated self-service activation, creation, and management to optimize bandwidth utilization across their access and submarine network. Ciena is also providing Enablement, Fulfillment and Installation (EF&I) services via its Specialist Service portfolio.
