Telenor to set up 950 new sites in Bihar and Jharkhand

Telenor investment in Bihar and Jharkhand
Telecom network operator Telenor India will be adding 950 new sites covering over 3,380 rural areas in the Bihar and Jharkhand circle.

Telenor India, a regional telecom operator in India, is also making investment to upgrade the existing 3235 sites in Bihar and Jharkhand circle.

As per the Capex (capital expenditure) plan, the number of telecom sites will increase to 4,185 in Bihar and Jharkhand to ensure better voice quality and enhanced 2G data speed to its customers. Telenor does not have 3G and 4G presence in India at present. Telenor India said 22 percent of its subscribers access Internet on its 2G network.

Telenor India had 7.57 million subscribers in Bihar and Jharkhand as of September 2015. The circle has seen a 37 percent growth in Internet users since November 2014. It stood at number 5 in revenue market share in quarter ending June 2015.

Telenor India CEO Sharad Mehrotra said: “We will continue to invest in one of our most successful and fastest growing markets. With the new sites we are taking our most affordable voice and Internet services more closer to our customers.”

The telecom service provider plans to add at least 14,250 new sales outlets taking its retail base to over 80,000 by this year-end.

“These network and retail expansions will enhance our network capacity to meet the rising demand for voice and data services in the circle,” said AEA Jameel, circle business head, Bihar and Jharkhand, Telenor (India) Communications.

Telenor has recently selected Huawei India to modernize 24,000 sites to enhance power and spectral efficiencies. In the first phase, 5,000 sites covering 100 towns will be ready to deliver high speed Internet services by end of this year.
