Lead Team: Chunghwa Telecom, a mobile operator in Taiwan, is planning to expand
its workforce by around 8 percent this year to tap into new business
opportunities brought on by the closer economic ties between Taiwan and China.
The company
plans to add 2,000 staff this year to boost its cloud computing, sales and
customer service. It has around 25,000 employees currently.
Among the business
ties between the two sides on the telecom front, Chunghwa Telecom agreed to
build an undersea cable connecting Taiwan and China across the Pacific with
China Telecom.
It also
invests in related businesses, and other ventures as authorized by the Ministry
of Transportation and Communications.
Chunghwa Telecom recently
announced that it received board approval to participate in China Airlines’
secondary equity offering up to a maximum amount of NT$3.5 billion, at the
issue price of NT$11.73 per share, after confirming China Aviation Development
Foundation’s (CADF) participation in the offering as aforementioned.
