Telefonica Spain has tapped Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers to build metro network across Spain to deliver fixed and mobile broadband services.

, including TV for residential users, as well as cloud services for businesses — from a single IP network.

Telefonica manages almost 41 million accesses in Spain and runs the most extensive Fibre-to-the-home network in Europe with the highest number of connected customers reaching 12.5 million premises passed to June

The company has a significant presence in 21 countries and a customer base of over 329 million accesses around the world.

Telefonica selected the Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Router to consolidate its wholesale, residential and business services onto a single end-to-end IP infrastructure. The SDN-ready MX Series scales up to 80Tbps of system capacity, providing Telefonica with investment-protecting performance and the density to meet surging bandwidth and service demands.

“Our new network supported by Juniper Networks will streamline connectivity with a seamless IP path from access to services and cut down the number of hops to traverse. The new network will also be quicker to provision, thereby reducing time-to-service activation and enabling simpler overall operation and maintenance,” said Joaquin Mata, chief technology officer, Telefonica Spain.

Juniper Networks routing will support Telefonica Spain’s new network to ensure better capacity and performance for video capabilities. Juniper Networks’ NFV and SDN capabilities will help Telefonica meet customer demands.
