Huawei Chairwoman meets Narendra Modi in China

Huawei Chairwoman Madam Sun Yafang has met the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit by the Prime Minister to China.

Madam Sun and Modi discussed the role of the ICT sector in the plans of India’s government, and Huawei’s desire and ability to support the government’s Digital India and Make in India initiatives.

Madam Sun said, “We are confident about India’s potential for economic development. Huawei will continue to be an enabler for Digital India, a key contributor to the country’s economy, and a responsible corporate citizen, bringing socio-economic value to India to support the government’s agenda.”

India is one of the global strategic markets for the company. Huawei, which has been serving major telecom operators to help the country build ICT infrastructure, is a partner in the government’s Digital India initiative.

Since 1999, Huawei worked with local telecom operators to provide services to 300 million Indian customers. It has also provided online education for over 100,000 students in 1,500 schools in India to help them better connect with the world.

The company employs more than 5,700 people, 92 percent of whom are local. Huawei’s Indian operations include a manufacturing unit in Chennai, a Global Resource Center and a Global Network Operation Center in Bangalore.
