NTT DOCOMO to unveil new fitness service Runtastic for Docomo

Japanese telecom service provider NTT DOCOMO on Tuesday announced that it will release a new fitness service called Runtastic for Docomo.

Available in December, Runtastic for Docomo supports smarter, healthier lives by collecting and measuring fitness-related data during physical activity.

NTT DOCOMO developed Runtastic for Docomo in association with the Austrian fitness app provider Runtastic.

There will be six apps, one each for running / jogging, biking, squats, push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups. Users can choose from among 30 training programs and use the apps to set personal goals.

NTT DOCOMO will price the service at 350 yen per month + taxes.

The apps are compatible with smartphones and tablets running either on Android 2.3 or iOS 7.0, or later versions.

The apps interact with the C3fit IN-pulse smart shirt, which is made with hitoe, a nanofiber e-textile and marketed by sportswear manufacturer GOLDWIN.

The smart shirt enables the user’s heart rate to be measured and then visualized on a smartphone screen via the hitoe Transmitter 01 device. The C3fit IN-pulse smart shirt is designed to fit snuggly for precise data monitoring even after extensive use.

DOCOMO plans to offer additional mobile products for the measurement and monitoring of diverse fitness data.
