Sprint bags $36 million wireless contract from Federal Aviation Administration

Sprint announced that it bagged a $36
million wireless contract from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and
the Department of Transportation (DOT).

The multiyear agreement will provide
wireless services to the FAA and DOT for up to five years and includes voice,
mobile broadband, and mobile computing services.

IT services represent the largest cost
category in the FAA’s budget after personnel. The selection of Sprint directly
supports the agency’s ability to cost-effectively optimize resources, manage
expenses, and harness the power of Sprint’s next-generation network
technologies to support FAA information services and information systems.

A mobilized workforce helps enable the FAA
organization to carry out virtually all business functions in a responsive,
flexible and efficient manner, promoting and facilitating the optimization of
IT resources, and exercising solid stewardship of the agency’s IT enterprise.

We are proud that the FAA will continue to
rely on Sprint to provide innovative and efficient wireless solutions to
support its mission of providing the safest, most efficient aerospace system in
the world,” said Bill White, Sprint vice president-Federal.

“In conjunction, our federal dedicated care
team will be intensely focused on wireless expense management to help the FAA
Wireless Program Office stretch their limited IT budget. It’s not enough to
just lead with innovative technology. These tough budget times drive a real
responsibility to help agencies maximize every dollar they spend while reducing
the time and energy spent on managing their wireless services,” White added.
