Telecom service provider Ooredoo Myanmar has selected Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) to supply core and radio infrastructure for 3G network.
As per the two-year 3G deal, NSN will build a complete 3G radio access network (RAN) on the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands based on its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station and Multicontroller Radio Network Controller (mcRNC).
NSN claims that these platforms offer high-capacity and are flexible to manage increasing traffic growth, but does not share specific details about benefits to Ooredoo Myanmar. The telecom operator is looking at launching 3G next year.
NSN does not talk about the size and scope of the 3G contract.
“This initiative underlines our commitment to deliver world-class communications services to our customers in Myanmar, who will soon enjoy a great customer experience with our network,” said Ross Cormack, chief executive officer at Ooredoo Myanmar.
In addition, NSN will provide its Liquid Core based open Mobile Switching Center Server (MSS), open Media Gateway (MGW), Evolved Packet Core (EPC) ready equipment, including Flexi NS (network server) and Flexi NG (network gateway).
The contract also includes NSN’s Subscriber Data Management (SDM) with its New Technology Home Location Register (NT-HLR) and One-NDS subscriber data management system to enable a centralized database repository that is independent of the application used.
NSN in a statement said it will also provide its NetAct management system to ensure consolidated configuration, monitoring and network optimization for Ooredoo Myanmar’s 3G network. NSN will also provide its CEM on Demand and Serve atOnce Traffica to provide insights into the customer experience.
This deal marks NSN’s entry into Myanmar.
Recently, Myanmar government opened up the telecom sector for foreign investment and Ooredoo is one of the mobile operators to receive wireless license. Telenor is also in the process of finalizing its roll outs in Myanmar.
