Timbercon unveils QSFP/QSFP+ Host Test Board

Timbercon, a fiber optic product and solution manufacturing company, announced the launch of its QSFP/QSFP+ Host Test Board.

The QSFP/QSFP+ Host Test Board (HTB) provides an easy method of testing QSFP/QSFP+ transceivers, active cables, and customizing Timbercon’s QSFP/QSFP+ electric loopbacks.

The QSFP/QSFP+ HTB include Timbercon proprietary operations software and a user manual to enable QSFP/QSFP+ memory map programming and testing. The software communicates to the board through an easy-to-use USB connection and is Windows based. The software is designed to
operate on Windows 98 and above.

The QSFP/QSFP+ HTB features transmit, receive, computer interface, and power supply ports. It includes a status LED that when connected, will illuminate when the signal is asserted. There are 16 SMA connectors to meet customers’ testing requirements during the development and analysis of
transceivers.

The QSFP/QSFP+ Host Test Board is designed to simulate an ideal environment for QSFP/QSFP+ transceiver module testing, using Rogers 3003 PC board material and single-ended micro-strip transmission lines.

These properties make the Host Test Board as electrically transparent as possible, allowing a more accurate assessment of the QSFP/QSFP+ transceiver or electric loopback modules’ performance.

“Our customers approached us with the need to program custom memory maps and test the functionality of QSFP/QSFP+ transceivers during development,” said Cindy Wolcott, account manager for Timbercon.

“The QSFP/QSFP+ Host Board meets and exceeds our customers’ testing requirements by evaluating data rates up to 40 Gbps,” Wolcott added.

Timbercon recently announced that it is expanding its technology capabilities by becoming a value added reseller (VAR) of ESKA POF (plastic optic fiber), which is developed by Mitsubishi Rayon (MRC) and supplied by Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC). Timbercon’s alliance with MIC will allow Timbercon to offer POF solutions to OEM customers for applications including medical devices, imaging, industrial light pipes, and fiber illumination.
