AT&T and Ericsson Demonstrate 5G Drone Detection at 300–400 Feet Using Massive MIMO Network Sensing

AT&T and Ericsson announced they demonstrated integrated sensing and communication technology outside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The system used existing cellular infrastructure and Ericsson Massive MIMO radios deployed across multiple network sites. It successfully detected, located and continuously tracked multiple drones flying between 300 and 400 feet above ground. The demonstration combined synchronized radio sensing, advanced signal processing and AI-based algorithms. The technology generated real-time information about drone location, velocity and elevation. The companies believe existing 5G infrastructure could eventually support distributed sensing applications associated with future 6G networks. Commercial deployment dates, detection range, spectrum bandwidth and investment costs were not disclosed.

Ericsson and Erillisverkot Complete Finland 5G ISAC Drone Detection Trial at Helsinki Port

Ericsson and Finnish public-safety communications operator Erillisverkot announced on October 30 the results of an integrated sensing and communication demonstration conducted in Helsinki. The tests took place during September 16–18, including a live demonstration at Vuosaari Harbor. Multiple 5G network locations collected sensing information simultaneously to detect, locate and track drone movements. The architecture combines Massive MIMO radio technology, beam steering, edge computing and specialized signal-processing software. Ericsson and Erillisverkot are evaluating how mobile infrastructure could complement existing surveillance systems around ports, airports and other critical locations. The trial builds on their collaboration involving Finland’s Virve 2.0 public-safety network. Detection accuracy, operating range and commercial deployment commitments were not disclosed.

Reliance Jio Leads Adoni–Mantralayam Mobile Download Speeds at 209.11 Mbps, TRAI Finds

TRAI’s October 30 report also disclosed mobile-network performance across Adoni, Mantralayam and surrounding areas in Andhra Pradesh. The independent drive tests covered approximately 201.8 kilometers during September 17–18, including six hotspot locations. Reliance Jio delivered average download throughput of 209.11 Mbps, ahead of Bharti Airtel at 118.55 Mbps. Vodafone Idea recorded 12.27 Mbps, while BSNL delivered 10.19 Mbps. Airtel led average upload speeds at 18.73 Mbps, followed by Jio at 14.20 Mbps, BSNL at 6.05 Mbps and Vodafone Idea at 5.37 Mbps. Airtel and Jio recorded zero dropped calls in their respective samples. BSNL recorded 15 dropped calls and Vodafone Idea six, highlighting substantial differences in network reliability.

Jio Records 267.13 Mbps Download Speed in Leh as TRAI Finds Significant Coverage Gaps on Mountain Routes

TRAI published independent mobile-network performance measurements covering Leh, Nubra Valley and Pangong on October 30. The August tests covered 62.6 kilometers of city routes and 396.3 kilometers of highways. In Leh and nearby areas, Reliance Jio recorded average download throughput of 267.13 Mbps, compared with Airtel’s 121.65 Mbps and BSNL’s 8 Mbps. Airtel led upload speeds at 22.13 Mbps, marginally ahead of Jio’s 21.20 Mbps. However, performance deteriorated on remote highways. Between Nubra Valley and Pangong, Airtel averaged 80.59 Mbps, Jio 44.48 Mbps and BSNL 8.86 Mbps. The regulator also identified substantial weak-signal samples and dropped calls along mountain routes.
