Samsung and Apple Strengthen Premium Smartphone Leadership in Thailand as AI and 5G Demand Accelerate in Q1 2026

Thailand’s smartphone market in Q1 2026 remained one of Southeast Asia’s most premium-oriented and balanced smartphone markets, with Samsung Electronics and Apple maintaining strong positions alongside aggressive competition from Chinese smartphone vendors including OPPO, Xiaomi, and vivo.

Thailand smartphone market Q1 2026 Omdia report

Thailand continued standing out as one of Southeast Asia’s strongest premium smartphone markets because of higher consumer purchasing power, rapid 5G adoption, expanding digital services usage, and resilient demand for flagship smartphones and AI-enabled mobile ecosystems.

According to Omdia, Southeast Asia smartphone shipments declined 9 percent year-on-year in Q1 2026 as smartphone vendors increasingly prioritized profitability, inventory optimization, and pricing discipline over shipment-led expansion.

Thailand’s smartphone market continued benefiting from extensive 5G network coverage, strong mobile internet penetration, tourism-driven retail demand, and growing consumer interest in AI-powered smartphones and premium ecosystem integration.

Samsung leads Thailand smartphone market with 26 percent share

Samsung Electronics secured the leading position in Thailand’s smartphone market with a 26 percent market share in Q1 2026, supported by strong demand across flagship Galaxy smartphones and the affordable Galaxy A-series portfolio.

Samsung continued benefiting from strong brand visibility, operator partnerships, premium retail presence, and increasing consumer interest in foldable smartphones and Galaxy AI ecosystem features. The company’s ecosystem integration strategy involving tablets, wearables, laptops, and connected devices also strengthened customer loyalty.

OPPO captured second place with a 21 percent market share despite softer momentum during the quarter. OPPO maintained strong market presence through offline retail expansion, installment-based financing programs, and camera-focused mid-range smartphones.

Xiaomi secured a 15 percent market share, driven by stable demand for Redmi and Poco smartphones in affordable and gaming-focused categories. Xiaomi continued leveraging aggressive pricing, fast charging capabilities, large batteries, and gaming optimization to attract younger consumers.

Apple also secured a 15 percent market share, tying with Xiaomi and reinforcing Thailand’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s strongest premium smartphone markets. Demand for iPhones remained resilient among affluent consumers, business professionals, and younger urban buyers seeking ecosystem continuity and long-term software support.

vivo rounded out the top five smartphone vendors with a 10 percent market share while continuing to focus on camera-centric smartphones, stylish designs, and affordable 5G devices targeting younger mobile-first consumers.

Samsung and OPPO together controlled a combined 47 percent market share, creating a strong leadership tier in Thailand’s smartphone market. Competition for third position remained highly competitive, with Xiaomi and Apple tied at 15 percent.

Vendors focus on premium ecosystem growth and affordable 5G expansion

Thailand’s smartphone vendors increasingly focused on balancing premium ecosystem expansion with affordable 5G smartphone growth as consumers upgraded devices amid rising digital content consumption and AI adoption.

Samsung strengthened its market leadership through Galaxy AI promotion, foldable smartphone expansion, and ecosystem integration across multiple consumer electronics categories.

OPPO continued emphasizing offline retail execution, AI-enhanced photography, and financing-led affordability programs targeting mainstream smartphone users.

Xiaomi maintained momentum through aggressively priced Redmi devices and gaming-oriented Poco smartphones offering high-refresh-rate displays, fast charging technology, and feature-rich software experiences.

Apple benefited from Thailand’s expanding premium smartphone segment as consumers increasingly prioritized camera quality, ecosystem integration, resale value, and long-term software updates.

vivo maintained its strategy around stylish smartphone designs, social-media-oriented user experiences, and camera optimization targeting younger digital consumers.

Premium smartphones gain momentum alongside affordable 5G devices

Thailand’s smartphone market in 2026 demonstrated stronger premium smartphone demand compared with several neighboring Southeast Asian markets, though affordable 5G devices continued representing the largest shipment category.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G smartphones retailed in Thailand between THB 7,000 and THB 9,000, while Galaxy A55 5G devices generally ranged from THB 13,000 to THB 16,000 depending on storage configurations and promotional campaigns.

Apple iPhone 16 smartphones were available starting near THB 32,000, while premium Pro variants exceeded THB 45,000 across operator stores and official retail channels.

Xiaomi Redmi Note smartphones generally retailed between THB 6,000 and THB 11,000, while Poco gaming-focused smartphones increasingly targeted the THB 9,000 to THB 15,000 segment.

Affordable OPPO and vivo smartphones remained highly competitive in the THB 5,000 to THB 12,000 category through operator promotions, bundled mobile plans, and aggressive financing programs.

Consumers increasingly prioritized AI-powered photography, gaming optimization, OLED displays, fast charging capabilities, premium design quality, and longer battery life instead of purely processor-based smartphone upgrades.

AI smartphones and gaming drive consumer buying trends

Thai consumers increasingly prioritized AI-enabled smartphone features, gaming optimization, premium ecosystem integration, and advanced camera capabilities during purchasing decisions in Q1 2026.

Mobile gaming, TikTok usage, online shopping, digital banking, and video streaming continued accelerating smartphone replacement cycles across urban and younger consumer groups.

Thailand also experienced stronger premium smartphone demand compared with several neighboring Southeast Asian markets because of higher consumer purchasing power and stronger operator financing availability.

Trade-in offers, installment-based purchasing programs, online flash-sale campaigns, and bundled operator promotions increasingly shaped smartphone buying behavior.

Consumers also placed greater emphasis on long-term software support, AI-powered productivity tools, battery performance, and display quality as smartphone replacement cycles continued lengthening.

Telecom operators expand 5G ecosystem and digital services

Thailand’s expanding 5G infrastructure and strong mobile internet ecosystem continued supporting smartphone upgrades during 2026.

Major telecom operators including Advanced Info Service, True Corporation, and National Telecom expanded 5G coverage and digital ecosystem services across the country.

Operators increasingly competed through unlimited data plans, gaming-focused subscriptions, cloud services, AI-driven mobile experiences, and video streaming bundles as mobile data consumption continued growing rapidly.

Thailand remained one of Southeast Asia’s strongest 5G markets, supporting stronger adoption of premium smartphones, cloud gaming services, and AI-enabled mobile applications.

Tourism recovery and increasing digital payment adoption also continued supporting smartphone upgrades and broader mobile ecosystem spending.

Consumers raise concerns over overheating and rising smartphone prices

Consumer discussions across smartphone forums, retail platforms, and social media increasingly highlighted concerns related to battery heating during gaming, software optimization, and rising smartphone prices.

Several Samsung Galaxy users discussed battery drain and thermal performance concerns following software updates, while some Xiaomi users highlighted software advertisements and pre-installed applications affecting user experience.

OPPO and vivo users occasionally raised concerns regarding long-term software update consistency and overheating during prolonged gaming sessions.

Apple users continued expressing concerns over premium smartphone pricing, accessory ecosystem costs, and battery replacement expenses despite strong satisfaction with software support and long-term device performance.

Consumers also increasingly discussed rising mobile data pricing and shorter promotional pricing cycles as Thai telecom operators focused more heavily on profitability and ARPU optimization.

Outlook: AI ecosystem competition expected to intensify

Thailand is expected to remain one of Southeast Asia’s most strategically important premium smartphone markets because of strong 5G adoption, rising AI smartphone demand, resilient consumer spending, and expanding digital services usage.

Smartphone vendors are increasingly expected to compete through AI-powered ecosystem integration, premium camera capabilities, gaming optimization, foldable smartphones, and financing-led affordability instead of purely hardware-driven differentiation.

Samsung and Apple are likely to continue benefiting from Thailand’s expanding premium smartphone segment, while Chinese smartphone vendors are expected to intensify competition across affordable AI-ready 5G devices and gaming-oriented smartphones throughout 2026.
