BTRC Unlocks Powerful Low-Band Spectrum to Transform Mobile Coverage

Bangladesh’s telecom regulator, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), is preparing to release additional low-band spectrum, particularly in the 700 MHz band, to significantly enhance mobile network coverage and service quality. Known for its wide reach and strong indoor penetration, low-band spectrum is essential for improving connectivity in rural and underserved areas. The initiative aims to address the shortage of sub-1 GHz spectrum faced by telecom operators while supporting the rollout of next-generation 5G services. However, the process has been slowed by legal disputes over parts of the band and limited participation from operators in earlier spectrum auctions.
