Telecom Lead Asia: Motorola Korea in association with KT
Powertel launched the Motorola XT626, which is Android-based push-to-talk
smartphone, supporting both iDEN and 3G networks.
KT Powertel will market the Motorola XT626 in the Korean
market as the DOUBLE V.
With the advantages of both push-to-talk and
Android-powered smartphone features, Motorola XT626 opens the door to new
opportunities for service providers and professionals who need to stay in touch
with their teams anytime, anywhere,” said Greg Page, vice president and general
manager, iDEN, Motorola Mobility.
The smartphone is capable to work as either an iDEN
device or a smartphone based on the SIM cards inserted.
With iDEN push-to-talk functionality, user can make
instant phone calls, group talks or group text messaging.
The smartphone comes with a pre-loaded application that
enables push-to-talk capability over WiFi when the iDEN network is not
available.
Motorola XT626 runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is
capable to sync corporate email and personal (POP3/IMAP) email.
The smartphone comes with 8MP rear camera with digital
zoom, auto focus, and LED Flash. For video calling, the smartphone has a front
facing 1.3MP.
Motorola XT626 supports 802.11b/g/n WLAN and comes with
4GB of internal memory (4GB eMMC ROM) and a microSD slot, with a 8GB memory
card included, supporting up to 32GB.
Asian telecom markets are key areas for Motorola
smartphones
At the recent GSMA Mobile Asia expo, the company said
that the Asian market will be important to Motorola as the smartphone sector
becomes increasingly competitive in the region.
“Asia Pacific in general is a very strong market
segment,” said Bin Shen, Motorola VP for international product management.
Motorola recently re-entered the Japanese market with the
first 4G CDMA and WiMAX smartphone and has made significant R&D investment
in South Korea.
