How StarHub is deploying Suntech OSS for digital transformation

StarHub has selected Suntech, a provider of Operations Support System (OSS) solutions based in Poland, to upgrade its service fulfilment platforms as part of the OSS digital transformation initiative.
StarHub 5G in SingaporeStarHub has gained the enhanced ability to manage its logical and physical network elements in an integrated manner by implementing Suntech’s SunVizionNetwork Inventory System. StarHub Integrated Network Engineering team can accurately track the utilisation of resources and proactively identify areas for enhancements in performance, capacity and coverage, based on business demands.

“Everything we do as part of our digital transformation journey is all about our customers, driving speed and efficiency gains in service delivery and user experience,” said Chong Siew Loong, Chief Technology Officer, StarHub.

Rearchitecting OSS

StarHub’s Integrated Network Engineeringteam – which designs and maintains robust, efficient, and scalable fixed and wireless networks for the delivery of quality services, content and solutions to all consumers and enterprises – recognised the improved efficiency in their daily operations.

The benefit that the team can unveil is the ease of managing network inventory across network domains, spanning from physical infrastructure, transmission, international connectivity and services – in a single system.

Moreover, all network assets are searchable, visible and geographically represented in a highly accurate map. This has eliminated tedious cross-departmental efforts involved in planning new services and maintaining existing ones.

SunVizion OSS suite offers future capabilities that to support service developments and evolutions. The SunVizion solution will be integrated with StarHub’s Business Support Systems (BSS) and Service Orchestration platforms for agile end-to-end service delivery to meet today’s and tomorrow’s business needs such as 5G services.

One of the key drivers is automating the end-to-end service provisioning to reduce service activation time. Products/services are being mapped into service catalogue at both BSS and OSS layers, with service specifications that carry rules and parameters about how network and IT resources are allocated for service fulfillment.

When an order is placed, Ethernet Leased Line or a metro WDM link, the system understands what network resources are needed to compose the requested service. In-built workflows will automatically take care of service fulfilment process, including triggering external provisioning systems or sending specific work orders to field teams (such as site survey, last mile cabling, and end-to-end testing).

StarHub’s field engineers are armed with SunVizion mobile app, which gives them accurate information of the network at site. They can receive work orders based on their current availability and location. All the information required to perform the task is transferred and displayed on the mobile application.
