ZTE announced agreement with Telenet for exploring 5G and IoT technologies for its retail and enterprise customers in Belgium.

The agreement with ZTE will enable Telenet to explore technology solutions for IoT services and high capacity solutions using LTE Massive MIMO and LTE Broadcast solutions.

Telenet chief technology officer (CTO) Micha Berger and ZTE senior vice president Xiao Ming have the agreement to cover future network innovations.

Telenet is the largest cable broadband service provider in Belgium, providing digital television, fixed and mobile services to residential and business customers in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Utilizing ZTE’s Uni-RAN technology, China-based telecom equipment maker has assisted Telenet to upgrade its mobile network, resulting in improvements in performance and quality of services (QoS) for wireless subscribers and enhancement in carrier capabilities to manage its operations.

In addition, ZTE helped Telenet to replace 2G base stations and optimize 3G, 4G coverage, delivering increased network capacity for enhanced user experience for subscribers, and supporting evolution to future network technologies.

Telenet, in association with ZTE, completed field test and set a new European network speed record, achieving download speeds of 1.3 Gigabits per second, four times faster than existing 4G services.

ZTE said it is committed to investments in research and development of core 5G technologies including Massive MIMO, MUSA (multi-user shared access), FB-OFDM (filter-bank OFDM), Virtual Cell and network slicing.
