Ericsson inks 5G research deals with KDDI and Ooredoo

Telecom network vendor Ericsson today announced a 5G research and development deal with KDDI of Japan and Ooredoo Group in the Middle East.

KDDI and Ericsson will develop 5G use cases, requirements and deployment scenarios, as well as evaluate performance and applicability of potential 5G key technology components. The areas of interest for the companies include radio and core technologies.

Yoshiaki Uchida, managing executive officer, Technology Sector, KDDI, said: “We are committed to providing high-quality network performance and user experience to address the needs and expectation of our customers.”

Ericsson and Ooredoo have signed a MoU for 5G development with the ambition of developing use cases, requirements and deployment scenarios for 5G technologies.

Ooredoo and Ericsson will evaluate both the performance and applicability of potential key 5G components in a controlled test environment.
