Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Hottges @ shareholders’ meeting

Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Hottges has made several announcements at the group’s shareholders’ meeting in Bonn.
Deutsche Telekom networkDeutsche Telekom has achieved majority stake in T-Mobile US. Deutsche Telekom’s stake in T-Mobile US reached around 50.2 percent. Achieving a majority has been a stated goal of Deutsche Telekom since the 2021 Capital Markets Day. Following the business combination with Sprint three years ago, the stake of Deutsche Telekom in T-Mobile US was 43 percent.

Since 2013, the value of T-Mobile U.S. has increased by 153 billion euros ($167.44 billion). The increase in value for Deutsche Telekom’s shareholders stood at more than 70 billion euros. Deutsche Telekom estimates that the benefits of the transaction – between $7.2 and $7.5 billion – will outweigh the costs, which will amount to less than $1 billion in 2023.

Deutsche Telekom emits 94 percent fewer CO2 emissions than in 2017. Deutsche Telekom aims to be fully climate neutral by 2025. Last year, Deutsche Telekom reduced energy consumption in Germany by 278 gigawatt hours – that is 11 percent.

“We want to achieve net zero emissions from the production of cell phones. Anyone who fails to achieve green production will eventually be removed from the line-up. We import devices. But we export our environmental protection standards,” Tim Hottges said.

By 2040, Deutsche Telekom aims to become climate neutral across the entire value chain. “2040 is a long way off. So, we now have a new interim goal. A 55 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 compared to 2020,” Tim Hottges said at the AGM.

Deutsche Telekom’s revenue increased 6.1 percent in the last financial year to 114.4 billion euros. The performance indicator adjusted EBITDA AL rose by 7.7 percent to 40.2 billion euros.

Deutsche Telekom builds around 80 percent of new cell sites in Germany, 4,800 since 2019. Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network covers 95 percent of the population in Germany. In the United States, T Mobile has the best mobile network.
