China Unicom, Ericsson sign deal for 5G, Cloud, IoT

 

China Unicom
Telecom network and software maker Ericsson announced its agreement with China Unicom to collaborate on next-generation networks including 5G, Cloud and Internet of Things (IoT).

China Unicom and Ericsson, as part of the MoU signed in April, aim to accelerate the development of next-generation network standardization and the maturity of network infrastructure, to establish cross-industry ecosystems and to foster innovation for new business.

# Next-generation network architecture for fixed mobile convergence

Cooperation on 5G standardization, research into key technologies and joint testing

Studies of network visualization and 5G network slicing

Joint promotion of software-defined networking (SDN) projects in standardization groups and SDN solution verification

Mobile cellular IoT network end-to-end solutions and services

Ericsson will also support China Unicom’s ‘Focus Strategy’, commercial network evolution solution and low-cost coverage solution deployment and practice.

Chris Houghton, head of Region North East Asia, Ericsson, said: “With Ericsson’s technology, portfolio and global experience, China Unicom will be more competitive in networks and get ready to embrace the opportunities of network transformation.”

Ericsson has already announced more than 20 agreements to test 5G with telecom operators across the globe. Ericsson 5G Radio prototypes, designed for operator field trials, are achieving more than 25Gbps mobile throughput.
