China Mobile’s 5G Capex will be RMB110 billion in 2022

China Mobile has revealed its capital expenditure (Capex) for 2022, mainly focusing on the expansion of 5G network across the country.

China Mobile’s 5G Capex will be RMB110 billion in 2022 as compared with RMB114 billion in 2021 and RMB102.5 billion in 2020.

China Mobile, announcing the financial result, said its 5G-related Capex will reach about RMB110 billion. A cumulative 1.1 million 5G base stations will be put in use by year-end (of which 480,000 will be 700MHz 5G base stations).

CFN-related Capex will reach RMB48 billion in 2022 responding to the national strategy of channeling more computing resources from the eastern areas to the western regions. A cumulative around 450,000 IDC cabinets will be available for external use. China Mobile expects to commission a cumulative 660,000 cloud servers.

In 2021, China Mobile’s 5G-related investments amounted to RMB114 billion. China Mobile has more than 730,000 5G base stations, of which 200,000 were 700MHz 5G base stations.

China Mobile has 207 million5G network customers. China has the world’s largest 5G network and customer base.

China Mobile posted operating revenue of RMB848.3 billion (+10.4 percent) including telecom services revenue of RMB751.4 billion (+8.0 percent) in 2021.

“Our mobile customer base reached 957 million, with a net addition of 14.97 million. Of these, 387 million customers were 5G package customers – a net increase of 222 million customers,” Yang Jie, Chairman of China Mobile, said.

The ARPU (average revenue per user per month) of mobile business increased 3 percent to RMB48.8 in 2021.
