AT&T Probes Cyber Security Incident After Data Breach

Telecommunications giant AT&T has revealed that it is currently probing a concerning data breach that surfaced on the “dark web” approximately two weeks ago. Preliminary assessments indicate that the breach has impacted an estimated 7.6 million existing account holders and 65.4 million former account holders.
AT&T Store SnellvilleAccording to AT&T’s initial investigation, the compromised data set seems to date back to 2019 or even earlier. However, the company reassured the public that there is no evidence of unauthorized access to its systems as a direct result of this incident, Reuters news report said.

The origins of the data remain unclear, with AT&T stating that it’s uncertain whether the information originated from within the company itself or from one of its external vendors. Despite the breach, AT&T asserted that its day-to-day operations have not been significantly affected, though it continues to assess the situation and determine the exact source of the leaked data.

AT&T has taken proactive measures to address the breach’s impact on its customers. The company has reached out to all affected individuals and has initiated the process of resetting passcodes for the 7.6 million current customers affected by the breach. Additionally, AT&T has committed to providing credit monitoring services wherever necessary to mitigate potential risks arising from the breach.

Despite this security setback, AT&T continues to advance its technological offerings. The telecom giant’s expansive 5G network currently serves approximately 290 million people across the United States, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality telecommunications services to its customers nationwide.
