ZTE ultra-wideband remote radio unit hits LTE / 4G market

ZTE has unveiled its ultra-wideband remote radio unit (RRU).

The new milestone — for the telecom industry and ZTE — will enable the deployment of large-capacity wireless networks.

The ZXSDR R8978, a TD-LTE eight-channel RF module, supports 100MHz bandwidth. It can operate in the entire Band 41 frequency of 190MHz. Supporting a maximum of 5 X 20MHz signal bandwidth, the ZXSDR R8978 is the first base station device that complies with the LTE-Advanced requirements for over 100MHz operating bandwidth.

Many TDD operators have broadband spectrum resources. Clearwire in the United States. In China, the entire 190MHz spectrum of 2500-2690MHz has been allocated for TDD.

To meet operators’ requirements for ultra-wideband RRUs, ZTE developed the ZXSDR R8978 by using low consumption and broadband RF technologies.

Supporting up to 5 carrier frequencies, the ZXSDR R8978 fulfills operators’ power-consumption requirements in large-capacity and large-coverage conditions. Its amplifier technologies include Crest Factor Reduction (CFR), Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD), Doherty, amplifier voltage adjustment, and time slot–based intelligent electricity conservation, reducing power consumption.

The RRU uses noiseless natural heat dissipation, and can achieve a 35 percent reduction in power consumption compared with RRUs that use traditional air-conditioner heat dissipation, lowering electricity costs.

As of June 2013, ZTE has built TD-LTE pilot and commercial networks for 48 operators in 33 countries, spanning Europe, Asia-Pacific, Southeast Asia and CIS countries.
