Rogers to expand LTE network to more than 25 Canadian cities this year

By Telecom Lead Team: Rogers announced that
its LTE 4G wireless network in Canada is now available in more cities including
Laval, Terrebonne, Brossard, Longueuil and Vaudreuil.

The network provider is planning to expand
its LTE network to more than 25 additional cities this year. The expansion will
bring LTE to more than half the Canadian population by the end of the year.

“Today, we reach over 11 million and
we are continuing to expand. By the end of 2012 we will double this with 20
million Canadians able to use LTE devices to download apps, stream HD videos
and music or play on-line games, with no delays or buffering,” said John
Boynton, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Rogers.

Rogers was the first to launch an LTE network in Canada, starting in Ottawa
last July, followed by Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver in September. Also, it
was the first network to launch LTE devices in Canada.

Rogers was the first carrier in North
America to launch a HSPA+ network and offers Canada’s only GSM network.

The network provider added LTE-enabled
Samsung Galaxy Note in February last year. Other LTE devices include Samsung
Galaxy S II LTE smartphone and the HTC Raider as well as Canada’s first LTE
tablet, HTC Jetstream.

Rogers also offers its LTE Rocket stick
(Sierra Wireless AirCard  313U) and the LTE Rocket mobile hotspot (Sierra
Wireless AirCard 754S).

Rogers was the first carrier to launch
BlackBerry devices, and the first in Canada to launch both Android products and
the iPhone.
