Reliance Jio invests in Wi-Fi in six stadiums to tap cricket fans

Reliance Jio Infocomm, which will be launching its 4G LTE services in the second half of the year, is getting ready to offer free Wi-Fi to India’s cricket fans.

Cricket viewers at six cricket stadiums can access free Jionet Wi-Fi service, while watching their favorite matches during the upcoming T20 World Cup and IPL 2016, said the company.

Incidentally, existing mobile networks aren’t able to handle large data traffic during cricket games in stadiums, said Reliance Jio.

The Wi-Fi connectivity from Jionet will be many times faster than experienced before. Users can use Jionet free Wi-Fi to share their story ball by ball, connect with their friends, surf, stay connected on social networking sites, and more.

Reliance Jio Infocomm said it has made investment in its network capacity along with an excellent deployment of Wi-Fi access points (APs) that will cover the entire stadium with a seating capacity of minimum 20,000.

The 4G operator said Jionet High Density technology is designed to provide stable Wi-Fi coverage to individuals in densely packed groups and avoid congestion. High-Density Wi-Fi (HD Wi-Fi) creates lots of small radio footprints to cater for clients across the stadium.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has made investment in 743 Wi-Fi access points in M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, 558 Wi-Fi access points in Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharmashala, 1101 Wi-Fi access points in Eden Gardens in Kolkata, 627 Wi-Fi access points in Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, 668 Wi-Fi access points in Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi and 631 Wi-Fi access points in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai city.

Last month, Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani said the company will launch the 4G on commercial basis in the second half of 2016.
