NSN enhances VoLTE capabilities

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) on Tuesday said it has commercialized enhanced Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) as a software upgrade on top of its existing IMS/VoLTE core, further simplifying network deployments.

VoLTE is one of the target areas for mobile broadband operators which currently focus on data. Several telecom operators such as SK Telecom, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm, MetroPCS, and Verizon will be investing in voice over LTE in coming years.

Michael Clever, vice president, Voice and IP Transformation at NSN, said once subscribers get a taste of high-speed data, ultra fast call set-up times and HD-voice quality of 4G LTE networks, they’re keen to stay on 4G wherever they can.

VoLTE is a strong focus area for NSN. The broadband equipment vendor claims that it has 12 VoLTE 12 commercial contracts and IMS deployment in the world’s largest live LTE network.

To help operators ensure that their LTE customers benefit from the best service quality for both voice and data, NSN is also expanding its Service Quality Manager with a VoLTE content pack. Since voice quality is a key differentiator for VoLTE, NSN Service Quality Manager (SQM) features a new VoLTE content pack to monitor VoLTE service in real-time, across multi-technology, multi-vendor networks.

SQM can correlate network events to provide one view, through which operators can see all relevant information at a glance, helping them identify faults 70 percent sooner and resolving them 20 percent faster, said NSN.

To support operator efforts in building sustainable, high quality LTE voice, NSN Global Services has specialized in Voice Evolution end-to-end services: from guidance and process management regardless of the current network setup to unique VoLTE ecosystem design, planning, building, integration and operation expertise.

NSN provides  VoLTE functionality with IMS core and Telephony Application Server (TAS) core with seamless integration to existing 2G or 3G core networks, and with accelerated hand-over process between different access networks.

The NSN solution optimizes network behavior at the border of the FDD-LTE or TD-LTE coverage, which is a critical element for the commercial introduction of VoLTE on LTE networks.
