Nokia Siemens powers Claro Chile’s 4G / LTE network

Claro Chile launched LTE / 4G services in Chile. Nokia Siemens Networks supported the network.

The America Movil group subsidiary’s 4G service is the first high speed mobile broadband service in Chile.

“Our customers can now look forward to super-fast mobile broadband that will offer them a significantly superior service experience,” said Gerardo Munoz, chief executive officer at Claro Chile.

Latin America has 125,000 LTE connections currently. LTE subscriber base is expected to reach 1.9 million at the end of 2013.

Mobile broadband specialist Nokia Siemens provided an LTE radio access network featuring its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Stations.

The Flexi Multiradio Base Station is a Single RAN (radio access network) base station for GSM, 3G, and LTE.

It facilitates cost-effective site upgrade to LTE using Nokia Siemens’ NetAct management system to ensure consolidated configuration, monitoring and network optimization for Claro Chile’s radio and core network, including iSON automation.

Kristin Paulin, senior research analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, said:  “LTE subscriptions surpassed 49 million in the Americas region in the first quarter of 2013, and the region has already toppled over the 50 million milestone in May. Meanwhile, GSM subscription growth peaked in the fourth quarter 2012 in Latin America, and subscription growth is now driven by HSPA and to a lesser extent by LTE.”
