Telecom network operator Idea Cellular today announced the expansion of its 4G coverage to Himachal Pradesh.
The Aditya Birla group company has now 2G, 3G and 4G services in Himachal Pradesh.
Idea Cellular’s 4G service is available in major towns of Baddi, Dharamshala and Shimla. Idea Cellular will expand its 4G services to Hamirpur, Kangra, Nalagarh, Palampur and Sundarnagar by Diwali. Idea Cellular’s 4G services will cover 219 towns by the end of FY 2017.
Idea Cellular, which has recently acquired spectrum to expand its wireless broadband across the country, including Himachal, also invested in setting up network infrastructure and laying and maintaining Optical Fibre Cable in the mountainous terrains of HP.
Idea Cellular has acquired spectrum in the 1800 and 2500 bands, which will be efficiently utilized for expansion of services in HP. With more than double the quantum of spectrum, Idea is geared up to boost its wireless broadband services in the region and provide its customers with seamless internet connectivity throughout the length and the breadth of the state.
Following the acquisition of additional spectrum during the recent spectrum auction, Idea has transitioned to become a pan-India wireless broadband service provider, readying on its over 180 million customers for the Digital age.
“With nearly 900Mhz spectrum in both FDD and TDD bands, Idea Cellular is preparing itself to substantially improve customer’s Wireless Data experience and capture higher share of growing Mobile Data business,” said Rajat Mukarji, chief corporate affairs officer, Idea Cellular.
Idea Cellular has nearly 8 lakh mobile customers in the Himachal Pradesh state. Idea has introduced 4G data packs starting Rs 22.
Sudhir Pradhan, COO – Punjab, J&K and HP, Idea Cellular, said the telecom company will continue to expand the services in the region at a rapid pace and will cover 219 towns and 2903 villages by the end of the current financial year.
